Towson United Methodist Church is a large United Methodist church in the historic Hampton subdivision of Towson, a suburb of Baltimore County, Maryland. Its past, rooted in the United States of the 19th century and its subsequent growth in the two centuries since then, has closely followed the nation's political and sociological trends. The church offers a variety of activities for youth, ranging from ice cream parties to service projects and even a large youth conference. The ice cream party is a popular event among the youth at Towson United Methodist Church.
It is combined with hymns singing and fun activities for everyone. The children make crafts and play ice-cream-themed games, such as putting the icing on the ice cream and throwing ice cream bags. An ice-cream eating contest is also held. Ed Heiger, a member of the Church, prepares a PowerPoint presentation on ice cream and questions everyone's knowledge of interesting facts about ice cream. The youth class at Towson United Methodist Church is made up of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.
In addition to weekly Sunday School activities, they participate in group outings and service projects. They create blankets for Susannah's house, buy supplies for food baskets, play bingo at a local nursing home, and complete other service projects. It's also a lot of fun, with hunts for Easter eggs that glow in the dark, trips to mini-golf, and swimming parties. Resurrection Youth Conference is the largest Methodist youth conference in the world, where around 15,000 youth and adults come to worship together in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, in January of each year. During this time, Towson United Methodist Church organizes Brunch on Us from 9am until noon.
People in need can come to church to share and receive a free meal. During the week of August, the holiday Bible school at Loch Raven United Methodist Church (6622 Loch Raven Boulevard) offers a new twist. Kristen Whitely, president of the church's outreach committee, reports that the event currently has an average of ten participants who enjoy the meal, which is prepared and provided by church volunteers. Towson United Methodist Church provides an array of activities for youth that are both educational and entertaining.
